Type of Music Video
There are three main different types of music videos; Performance, Narrative and Concept. Although all three of these types of videos are very different from each other, one thing is certain. The artist is almost always the centre of attention throughout the music video. Even in many narrative videos the artist is often featured as a specific "character". this is most likely because music videos are used as marketing strategt to advertise the artist and showcase their talents in order to sell singles and albums.
Initially we decided to create a narrative music video focused not at the artist, but on the relationship the song so lyrically describes. It would also feature a few performance pieces to interest the audience on the song and not just get lost in the story. Our very first animatronic storyboard is shown below to give you an idea of what we first hoped to create.

We encountered some problems with actors and could only get one, therefore we decided to change our entire idea and instead create a performance based music video with a one sided narrative from the girls perspective.
In The Synth-Pop Genre...
The most common type of music video is narrative and performance. Synth-pop music is very upbeat and electronic, therefore many music videos show people having a good time either at a party or at club. The music is very likely focused around love, whether its about a breakup or falling in love, love is commonly a main theme of the song.
Performance is a very important factor as it allows the artist to show off their vocals more. The viewer will be able to associate the artist with the song much easier than if they are not performing.
